Southend and District Archery Club is proud to be one of the oldest members of Essex County Archery Association.  The Club was established in the late 1940’s by a Westcliff family, led by Major Haye and Mrs. Vera Baldwin, and a group of friends under the name of Trinity Archers.  They later joined Essex County Archery Association as Southend and District Archery Club in August 1951.

Major Haye shot for England in the World Championships at Helsinki in 1955 and Vera Baldwin was made a Lieutenant of Sherwood Forest, an honorary title, as one of the top woman archers in the country.

Since its inception the Club has met at various locations, the Hollywood Restaurant, Two Tree Island and Rocheway to name a few, but for many years now we have been shooting regularly at King Edmund School, Rochford.  Indoors in the Winter and outdoors on the school playing field in Summer.

We also hold an Open Tournament every September, something we have done since 1954.  This has become an extremely popular event attracting archers from all over the country.

Although we have been around for a long time we are always open to new ideas and have the ability to adapt whilst keeping faith with the traditions and camaraderie of an historic sport. 

Today the Club’s aim is, as it has always been, to promote the practice and enjoyment of the sport of Archery.  We have a membership consisting of all ages and abilities, some have been with the Club for many years.  We are always very welcoming to those new to archery, running regular training courses, and a one to one mentoring scheme for those wishing to improve and progress with their archery.
